Engineering Management Institute Have You Learned Your Lessons Yet? EMI Featured Guest Blogger: Robert Mote way of project execution and seen what happens on site, all the way to turnover. My emphasis and personal interest is on the quality of the engineering design to improve execution, ensure smoother construction and obtain quick turnover. Armed with my Lessons Learned, I know it is attainable to save lots of tens of millions, save months within the building schedule and enhance project efficiency just via improved engineering. In the next project startup, I will have the ability to align the design group to the Lessons Learned, assign specific issues to specific members, create research group that might report their findings again to the team. Nobody can learn 300 classes discovered and say ‘received it’. That is not the aim. However, I can walk the group through pictures, telling stories; create a portfolio collating the examples for the staff member in visible form. I can break the lessons learned into group and assign to study teams. In meetings, we are able to document classes learned issues as they occur, coaching all people to search for them and report them. Along each step of the way in which, I actually have listened to engineers, designers, estimators, QA/QC inspectors, fabricators, module yard assemblers, contractors, designers, web site foremen, warehouse workers, heavy lifts folks, security, scaffolders, tank welders and extra. They all had one thing to say. Small concepts, huge concepts, feedback, observations all recorded as they happened. If I didn’t do that how many Lessons Learned would I consider?
